City playbook
How to book more B2B meetings in Brisbane
Brisbane is the one east coast capital that does not change its clocks, and it is in the middle of a long infrastructure build. This guide is for in-house teams calling Brisbane and south east Queensland businesses, from Brisbane or elsewhere. It covers the summer time gap, where the buyers sit, the Queensland calendar and what changes on the call. The national rules and benchmarks are in the Australia playbook.
Quick answer
By Harry Constant, Founder of Nousu Collective. Published 3 November 2026. Benchmarks are Nousu's published figures from 218,000+ dials into Australian businesses. This guide is general information, not legal advice.
What is different about selling into Brisbane
Queensland stays on AEST, UTC+10, all year. From the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, Brisbane is an hour behind Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. National teams that schedule everything in Sydney time call Brisbane at 9am local, before its peak, and lose the best hour of the Brisbane day.
Brisbane's economy leans towards resources, construction and infrastructure, logistics and agribusiness, with a large state government and services sector. Many Brisbane headquarters run operations across regional Queensland, so the buyer may be in the CBD while the problem is on a mine site, a farm or a construction project hundreds of kilometres away. Ask where the work happens, not just where the buyer sits.
Infrastructure work ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the transport and venue projects around it, is a long-running buying signal for construction, engineering, equipment, safety and workforce suppliers. A call that names a specific project lands better than one that names the Games.
| Area | Industries concentrated there | Who to call first |
|---|---|---|
| CBD | Resources headquarters, professional services, Queensland Government, finance | Heads of function, procurement, partners |
| Fortitude Valley and Newstead | Technology, startups, digital and creative agencies | Founders, heads of growth and technology |
| Australia TradeCoast | Airport and port logistics, freight, manufacturing, aviation services | Operations, fleet and supply chain managers |
| Southern corridor to the Gold Coast | Manufacturing, distribution, construction | Owners, operations and plant managers |
| Ipswich and the western corridor | Logistics, defence, manufacturing | Operations and site managers |
Call windows into Brisbane from each time zone
Brisbane's peak windows, 10am to 11am at a 22% connect rate in Nousu's data and 2pm to 3pm at 19%, fall at the same times in Sydney from April to October and an hour later, 11am to 12pm and 3pm to 4pm, from October to April.
That makes Brisbane a useful filler for a Sydney team in summer: call Sydney and Melbourne at 10am, then Brisbane at 11am. From Perth, Brisbane's morning peak is 8am all year, because neither state uses daylight saving. From Auckland, it falls at 12pm New Zealand time in winter and 1pm in summer. The table below works out both windows from each city in mid-winter and mid-summer.
For teams in Brisbane calling the southern states, the gap works the other way: Sydney's 10am peak is 9am in Brisbane during daylight saving, so start your day with the southern list.
| Calling from | Morning peak, 15 July | Afternoon peak, 15 July | Morning peak, 17 November | Afternoon peak, 17 November |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney | 10am to 11am | 2pm to 3pm | 11am to 12pm | 3pm to 4pm |
| Melbourne | 10am to 11am | 2pm to 3pm | 11am to 12pm | 3pm to 4pm |
| Adelaide | 9:30am to 10:30am | 1:30pm to 2:30pm | 10:30am to 11:30am | 2:30pm to 3:30pm |
| Perth | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm |
| Auckland | 12pm to 1pm | 4pm to 5pm | 1pm to 2pm | 5pm to 6pm |
| Singapore | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm |
The Queensland calendar and government buyers
Queensland's Labour Day falls on the first Monday in May and King's Birthday on the first Monday in October, different from most other states. Ekka People's Day, a Wednesday in August during the Royal Queensland Show, is a public holiday in Brisbane, and regional Queensland towns have their own show holidays through the year.
Queensland Government agencies publish opportunities on QTenders, and many buy through standing offer arrangements. Use calls to find who owns a requirement and when it will go to market, and during a live tender speak only to the named contact. The wet season from roughly December to March can disrupt regional operations, which affects buyers whose work is in the north and west of the state.
Numbers, lists and data in Brisbane
Brisbane landlines start with 07 3, and dial as +61 7 3 from overseas. All of Queensland uses 07, so an 07 number could be on the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast, where numbers usually start 07 5, or in regional Queensland, where many start 07 4. Check the address before you add a contact to a Brisbane call block.
Central switchboards at resources and construction companies are a slow route to site-based buyers. Build verified mobiles for operations and project managers, and record which number type connects so you can see the difference after four weeks.
Local events and industry associations
Business Chamber Queensland, formerly the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland, is the state's peak business body and runs events across Brisbane and the regions. The Queensland Resources Council represents the resources sector, and its events bring together the operators and suppliers in the industry.
Ekka week itself is a social calendar for many Brisbane businesses. Use the fortnight before it to book meetings for the week after, and keep the Wednesday free.
A two week Brisbane calling sprint
Pick one segment, such as logistics operators on the TradeCoast or construction contractors working on infrastructure projects. Build a list of named managers with verified mobiles, because site-based buyers are rarely at a desk, and wash any that may be personal against the Do Not Call Register.
Schedule calls in Brisbane time, not Sydney time. Call at 10am and 2pm Brisbane time, Tuesday to Thursday, with at least four attempts per contact, and book callbacks at the time the buyer says they will be off site. Compare the results with Nousu's Australian baseline of 14% connect and 1.3 meetings per 100 dials.
Replace the {{placeholders}} with your own details before you call.
Opener: 'Hi {{first_name}}, it's {{your_name}} from {{company}}. We work with {{industry}} businesses in south east Queensland on {{problem}}. Is now a bad time for 30 seconds?'
Project line: 'I saw {{project}} is starting {{timing}}. Is that something your team is involved in?'
Callback: 'When are you usually back from site? I'll call you then, Brisbane time.'

|---|---|---|---|
| Morning peak (22% connect in Nousu's Australian data) | 10am to 11am | 11am to 12pm | None, so it will not compete with your local calls |
| Afternoon peak (19% connect in Nousu's Australian data) | 2pm to 3pm | 3pm to 4pm | None, so it will not compete with your local calls |
- The helper does not check public holidays. Each market guide lists the holidays and slow weeks to plan around.
Common mistakes when calling Brisbane
- Scheduling Brisbane calls in Sydney time during daylight saving, so they land at 9am Brisbane time.
- Sending meeting invites in Sydney time that arrive an hour wrong in Brisbane.
- Calling site-based buyers on a desk line in the middle of the morning.
- Forgetting that Queensland's Labour Day and King's Birthday fall on different dates from the southern states.
