What if you improved one stage?

    • +5 points connect rate (to 19%)

9.5 more meetings booked a month and 7.6 more held, from the same dials.

    • +5 points conversation rate (to 48%)

3.1 more meetings booked a month and 2.5 more held, from the same dials.

    • +2 points meeting rate (to 24%)

2.4 more meetings booked a month and 1.9 more held, from the same dials.

Connect rate: data quality and call timing

    • Use verified direct numbers and mobiles for named contacts. Nousu's industry figures count only those dials, which is why they sit above the 14% all-dials average.
    • Call in the prospect's local time and load your dials into 10am to 11am (a 22% connect rate) and 2pm to 3pm (19%). The 12pm to 1:30pm lunch dip falls to 9%, and after 5pm to 5%.
    • Keep going past the first attempt. It takes 4 attempts on average to reach a decision maker, and 58% of meetings are booked on the fourth attempt or later.

    How to use the calculator

Five minutes with your dialler or CRM report is enough.

    1. Choose a view. "Dials to meetings" works forward from your activity. "Meetings to dials" takes a monthly meeting target and solves the dials each SDR needs per day.
    2. Enter your activity: dials per SDR per day, the number of SDRs, working days in the month and dials per hour.
    3. Enter your funnel rates from the last four to eight weeks of calling. If you do not track a stage yet, start from the Nousu benchmark preset and replace it once you have your own numbers.
    4. Add an opportunity rate, average deal value and win rate if you want to see pipeline and revenue. Leave the deal value at 0 to skip it.
    5. Read the diagnosis. The calculator compares each stage with Nousu's published figures, names the biggest bottleneck and shows how many extra meetings a small lift in each stage would produce.
    6. Copy the results summary or the link to share the numbers with your team. The link carries your inputs, so whoever opens it sees the same result.

    The metrics and formulas

Every number in the calculator comes from one of these formulas. Benchmarks are Nousu's published figures; anything else is labelled as a starting assumption.

Connects are dials answered by a live person. Conversations are connects that reach the right person and run past the opener, rather than a gatekeeper or a brush off. Meetings booked are agreed and in the calendar. Meetings held actually took place with the right person.

The conversation benchmark is worked out from two published figures: 14% of dials connect and 6% of dials reach a decision maker, so 6 of every 14 connects, about 43%, become a conversation.

    Worked example

One SDR, 100 dials a day, 20 working days, at the Nousu benchmark rates.

    Forward: dials to meetings

    • 100 dials x 1 SDR x 20 days = 2,000 dials a month
    • 2,000 x 14% connect rate = 280 connects
    • 280 x 43% conversation rate = 120.4 conversations
    • 120.4 x 22% meeting rate = 26.5 meetings booked
    • 26.5 x 80% show rate = 21.2 meetings held
    • Meetings per 100 dials: 1.32. Dials per meeting: about 76
    • At 25 dials an hour: 4 hours on the phone a day, 80 hours a month

    Reverse: meetings to dials

    • Target: 8 meetings held a month
    • 8 ÷ 80% show rate = 10 meetings to book
    • 10 ÷ 0.01324 meetings per dial = about 755 dials a month
    • 755 ÷ 20 working days = 38 dials a day for one SDR
    • At 25 dials an hour: about 1.5 hours on the phone a day

In the same example, lifting the connect rate by 5 points to 19% adds about 9.5 meetings booked a month from the same 2,000 dials. Lifting the conversation rate by 5 points adds about 3.1, and lifting the meeting rate by 2 points adds about 2.4. That is why the list and call timing are usually the first place to look.

How many cold calls does it take to book a meeting in Australia?

The short answer is about 77 dials. The useful answer is in the stages behind that number.

Most cold calling benchmarks quoted in Australia come from overseas research. The figures on this page come from Nousu Collective's own operating data: 218,000+ dials into about 24,000 Australian companies between November 2024 and April 2026, targeting director, VP, C-suite and founder-level buyers.

Across those dials, 14% reached a live person, 6% became a conversation with an actual decision maker, and 22% of those conversations turned into a booked meeting. Multiply the stages together and you get 1.3 meetings per 100 dials, or about one meeting every 77 dials.

Volume alone does not get you there. It takes 4 attempts on average to reach a decision maker, and 58% of meetings are booked on the fourth attempt or later. Only 13% of meetings come from the first attempt, so stopping after one call forfeits 87% of the pipeline. Nousu's standard cadence is 8 touches over about 24 days.

Timing matters as much as persistence. 10am to 11am local time is the peak window at a 22% connect rate, with 2pm to 3pm second at 19%, and 68% of qualified meetings come from those two windows. Over the 12pm to 1:30pm lunch dip the connect rate falls to 9%, and after 5pm to 5%. Wednesday is the most productive day to call.

The industry figures count only dials where we held a verified direct number for a named contact, which is why their connect and decision-maker conversation rates sit above the 14% and 6% all-dials averages, and why the conversations behind those rows convert to meetings at a lower rate than the 22% average measured across every conversation. Healthcare, government and consumer retail were excluded because cold outbound underperforms there.

For booked meetings, Nousu's published show rate for a well run program is 75% to 85%, and phone-sourced meetings become sales opportunities 50% of the time, against 32% for cold email. Most Nousu campaigns book about 8 qualified meetings a month once running, within a range of 6 to 20.

    How to improve each stage

Each stage has a different cause and a different fix. Diagnose the stage, not the whole program.

    Conversation rate: gatekeepers and openers

    • If you mostly reach reception, ask for help finding the right person rather than pitching the gatekeeper.
    • Rewrite the first two sentences of your opener. Lead with a question about the buyer's world, not your company name and a pitch.
    • Review the notes from ten calls and check whether the caller asks a question early in the conversation.
How to get past the gatekeeper

Meeting rate: discovery and the ask

    • Establish the need before you ask for the meeting.
    • Ask for a conversation, such as twenty minutes to compare notes, rather than a demo.
    • Script your responses to the two or three objections that come up every time in your market.
Build a script with objection responses

Show rate: distance, framing and confirmation

    • Book within five to seven days. Meetings booked three weeks out decay.
    • Send the calendar invite while you are still on the call, with the prospect's own words in the description.
    • Confirm the day before, by the person who booked the meeting.
    Appointment setting benchmarks

    Opportunity rate: qualification and handover

    • Agree a written qualified meeting definition before you dial: right person, right company, confirmed need, attended.
    • Hand each meeting over with the prospect's stated need, their role and a timing signal, not just a name and a time.
How to define a qualified meeting

If every stage is healthy and meetings are still low, the problem is volume: add calling hours or expand the list. For openers that earn the next minute, see the best cold call opener for booking a B2B meeting, or build a structured script with the free cold call script generator.

    Onshore vs offshore calling

Who makes the calls changes every stage of the funnel.

    Onshore vs offshore compared

In Nousu's data, Australian callers book 1.3 meetings per 100 dials, against 0.3 for offshore teams. Offshore teams reach a decision maker on 1.5% of dials, against 6% onshore, and 39% of offshore-booked meetings were rated unqualified by client sales teams, against 13% onshore.

The median time for an Australian buyer to identify an offshore caller is 11 seconds. If you are benchmarking an offshore program, set the 0.3 figure as your comparison point rather than 1.3.

    Methodology and sources

Benchmarks come from Nousu Collective operating data, November 2024 to April 2026: 218,000+ dials into about 24,000 Australian companies, placed by a 100% Australian SDR team. Every dial and outcome was logged in the dialler at the time and reconciled against CRM records monthly. These are Nousu performance benchmarks, not a representative sample of the whole market.

The show rate range comes from our appointment setting benchmarks. Dials per day, dials per hour, win rate and the IT and MSP preset are typical starting assumptions, not benchmarks. Results are estimates based on the numbers you enter, not a guarantee.

About 77 dials per meeting in Nousu Collective's data from 218,000+ dials into Australian businesses, which is 1.3 meetings per 100 dials. It also takes 4 attempts on average to reach a decision maker, and 58% of meetings are booked on the fourth attempt or later.

Measured from dial to meeting, a well run Australian B2B program books about 1.3 meetings per 100 dials. Measured from conversation to meeting, 22% of conversations with decision makers turn into a booked meeting. Offshore teams book 0.3 meetings per 100 dials.

14% of dials into Australian businesses reach a live person in Nousu's data. The best window is 10am to 11am local time, with a 22% connect rate, followed by 2pm to 3pm at 19%.

Connect rate is the share of dials that reach a live person. Conversation rate is the share of those connects that become a real conversation with the right person rather than a gatekeeper or a quick brush off. In Nousu's data, 14% of dials connect and 6% of dials reach a decision maker, so about 43% of connects become a conversation.

Multiply your connect rate by your conversation rate and your meeting rate. At 14%, 43% and 22%, that is 0.14 x 0.43 x 0.22 = 0.0132 meetings per dial, or 1.32 meetings per 100 dials. Divide 1 by meetings per dial to get dials per meeting: about 76 here.

Find the stage that is furthest below benchmark. A low connect rate usually points to the list and call timing, short conversations to the opener, few meetings from good conversations to the ask, and a low show rate to how far out meetings are booked and whether they are confirmed. The calculator flags the weakest stage for you.

75% to 85% of booked meetings held is the range Nousu publishes for a well run program. Below 65% usually points to meetings framed as demos, booked too far out or not confirmed the day before.

This calculator works forward from dial activity and funnel rates to the meetings they produce, diagnoses the weakest stage and benchmarks it against Nousu data. Its reverse view solves only the daily dials needed for a meeting target. The pipeline calculator works backwards from a revenue target across calls, email and LinkedIn for full quota planning.
