How to book more B2B meetings in Adelaide
Adelaide is a smaller, closely connected market with a few industries of national importance, and a clock that is half an hour out from the east coast. This guide is for in-house teams calling Adelaide and South Australian businesses. It covers the time offset, where the buyers sit, the defence supply chain, the SA calendar and what changes on the call. The national rules and benchmarks are in the Australia playbook.

What is different about selling into Adelaide
South Australia runs on ACST, UTC+9:30, and ACDT, UTC+10:30, changing on the same dates as New South Wales and Victoria. That keeps Adelaide exactly 30 minutes behind Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra all year. Broken Hill, in far west New South Wales, also runs on Adelaide time. The Northern Territory uses the same standard time but no daylight saving, so in summer Darwin is an hour behind Adelaide.
The half hour is a small gap that causes big mistakes. Diallers set to the hour skip Adelaide's peak start, and meeting invites created in Sydney time arrive half an hour out. Set your CRM and calendar to show the contact's time zone, and say the time zone out loud when you book.
Adelaide is also a relationship market. Senior people in the same industry tend to know each other, and a credible referral moves faster here than in Sydney. That makes reputation a real asset: a well handled call, even one that does not book, can lead to a referral later.
| Area | Industries concentrated there | Who to call first |
|---|---|---|
| CBD and Lot Fourteen | State government, professional services, space, defence technology, AI and cyber | Program managers, founders, heads of function |
| Osborne and Port Adelaide | Naval shipbuilding, including submarine construction under AUKUS, and marine industries | Supply chain, procurement and engineering managers |
| Edinburgh and the northern suburbs | Defence, aerospace, defence science, advanced manufacturing | Program, engineering and procurement leads |
| Tonsley and Mawson Lakes | Advanced manufacturing, technology, research | Founders, operations and engineering managers |
| Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare | Wine, food and beverage production | Owners, general managers and operations |
| BioMed City on North Terrace | Hospitals, medical research, health technology | Operations, research and commercial leads |
Call windows into Adelaide from each time zone
Adelaide's peak windows are 10am to 11am, at a 22% connect rate in Nousu's data, and 2pm to 3pm, at 19%. From Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, that is always 10:30am to 11:30am and 2:30pm to 3:30pm, which overlaps half of your own peaks. Sequence the east coast first at 10am, then move to Adelaide at 10:30am.
From Brisbane, Adelaide's morning peak starts at 10:30am in winter and 9:30am in summer. From Perth, it is 8:30am in winter and 7:30am in summer. From Auckland, it falls at 12:30pm New Zealand time for most of the year. The table below works out both windows from each city in mid-winter and mid-summer.

Defence suppliers, government and the SA calendar
If you are selling into the defence supply chain, expect questions about security before the meeting. Primes and many tier two suppliers ask whether you are a member of the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) and how you handle sensitive information. Know your answer before you call, and do not ask a defence buyer to discuss program details on an unsolicited call.
South Australian Government agencies publish opportunities on SA Tenders and Contracts. Use calls to find who owns a requirement and its timing, and during a live tender speak only to the named contact.
South Australia's Adelaide Cup Day falls on the second Monday in March and Labour Day on the first Monday in October. Proclamation Day, 26 December, is part of the Christmas break. Vintage, from roughly February to April, is the busiest time of year for wine producers, so call them before or after it.
Numbers, lists and data in Adelaide
Adelaide landlines start with 08 8, and dial as +61 8 8 from overseas. Western Australia and the Northern Territory also use 08, so sort any 08 list by city before you schedule it: Adelaide, Perth and Darwin are on three different clocks for half the year.
Adelaide lists are smaller than Sydney or Melbourne lists for the same industry, so treat each contact as worth more. Spread attempts across the full two weeks rather than burning through the list in two days, and keep notes that let a colleague pick up a warm contact without starting again.
Local events and industry associations
The South Australian Business Chamber, which traded as Business SA until 2024, is the state's main business body and runs events across Adelaide. The Defence Teaming Centre represents South Australia's defence industry and connects suppliers with primes. Lot Fourteen, home to the Australian Space Agency's headquarters, runs regular events for space, defence technology and AI businesses.
In a smaller market, events are where referrals start. A call that follows up a specific conversation at a chamber or industry event converts far better than a cold one.
A two week Adelaide calling sprint
Pick one segment, such as advanced manufacturers in the northern suburbs or wine and food producers outside vintage. Build a list of named decision makers with verified mobiles and direct lines, and wash any number that may be personal against the Do Not Call Register.
Call at 10:30am and 2:30pm Sydney time, Tuesday to Thursday, with at least four attempts per contact across the two weeks. Use South Australian examples, and ask every positive contact who else in the industry you should speak to. Compare the results with Nousu's Australian baseline of 14% connect and 1.3 meetings per 100 dials.
Replace the {{placeholders}} with your own details before you call.
Opener: 'Hi {{first_name}}, it's {{your_name}} from {{company}}. We work with a few South Australian {{industry}} businesses on {{problem}}. Can I take 30 seconds to say why I called?'
Booking line: 'Shall we say {{time}} Adelaide time on {{weekday}}? I'll send the invite in Adelaide time now.'
Referral: 'If it's not for you, is there anyone in the industry here you think would want to hear about it?'
