City playbook
How to book more B2B meetings in Auckland
Auckland is New Zealand's commercial capital and the first market most Australian sellers try. This guide is for teams calling Auckland businesses, from Auckland or from Australia. It covers where the buyers sit, the call windows from Australian cities, the local calendar and what changes on the call. The national rules, including the UEMA, and the baseline benchmarks are in the New Zealand playbook.
Quick answer

What is different about selling into Auckland
About a third of New Zealanders live in Auckland, and most of the country's corporate headquarters are here. A meeting with an Auckland head of function is often a national decision, which makes Auckland the most valuable New Zealand list and the one most often called badly from Australia.
Auckland is spread out, and its business areas have little in common. The CBD and Wynyard Quarter hold finance, professional services and technology. The North Shore business parks hold technology, distribution and services firms. The southern belt from Penrose to East Tāmaki and Wiri is manufacturing, wholesale and logistics, close to the port and the airport. Segment the list by area before you write a word of the script.
Auckland buyers are polite and direct about relevance. They will give you a minute if you sound like you understand New Zealand, and they will end the call quickly if you sound like an Australian campaign. Use New Zealand examples and New Zealand dollar pricing, and say plainly where you are calling from.
| Area | Industries concentrated there | Who to call first |
|---|---|---|
| CBD and Wynyard Quarter | Banking, insurance, professional services, technology, corporate headquarters | Heads of function, finance and technology leaders |
| Parnell and Newmarket | Professional services, retail headquarters, health | General managers and marketing leaders |
| North Shore business parks | Technology, distribution, services | Owners, general managers, sales leaders |
| Penrose, Onehunga and East Tāmaki | Manufacturing, wholesale, engineering | Owners, operations and plant managers |
| Airport, Wiri and Manukau | Logistics, freight, warehousing | Operations, warehouse and fleet managers |
Call windows into Auckland from each time zone
Auckland runs on New Zealand time: UTC+12, and UTC+13 from the last Sunday in September to the first Sunday in April. Nousu has not published New Zealand connect rates, so start from the Australian peak windows, 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm local time, and check your own numbers after four weeks.
From Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, Auckland's morning peak is 8am to 9am for most of the year, and 7am to 8am in the week between the New Zealand and Australian daylight saving start dates. From Brisbane, it is 8am in winter and 7am in summer. From Perth it is 6am or earlier, so Perth teams should call Auckland only in the Auckland afternoon. The table below works out both windows from each city in mid-winter and mid-summer.
For an Australian team, that means a New Zealand block before your own morning peak and another over your lunch dip, when Australian connect rates fall to 9% anyway. Auckland afternoons fade early, so do not save New Zealand calls for the end of the Sydney day.
| Calling from | Morning peak, 15 July | Afternoon peak, 15 July | Morning peak, 17 November | Afternoon peak, 17 November |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Melbourne | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm |
| Brisbane | 8am to 9am | 12pm to 1pm | 7am to 8am | 11am to 12pm |
| Adelaide | 7:30am to 8:30am | 11:30am to 12:30pm | 7:30am to 8:30am | 11:30am to 12:30pm |
| Perth | 6am to 7am | 10am to 11am | 5am to 6am | 9am to 10am |
| Singapore | 6am to 7am | 10am to 11am | 5am to 6am | 9am to 10am |
The Auckland calendar
Auckland Anniversary Day falls on the Monday nearest 29 January: Monday 26 January in 2026 and Monday 1 February in 2027. With Waitangi Day on 6 February close behind, and much of the city on summer leave until late January, Auckland rarely runs at full speed before the second week of February. Book February meetings before Christmas.
Matariki, Labour Day on the fourth Monday in October and King's Birthday on the first Monday in June are national holidays. The school holidays in April, July and late September to early October thin out calendars for senior people with families.
Numbers, lists and data in Auckland
Auckland landlines start with 09, and dial as +64 9 from overseas. Northland also uses 09. New Zealand mobiles start with 02, most often 021, 022 or 027, and dial as +64 2.
Most databases built for Australia have thinner coverage of Auckland than of Sydney, so expect gaps and stale numbers in an exported list. Confirm entities on the NZBN register, verify numbers before you dial, and record the source and consent basis of every email address so your follow-up emails meet the UEMA. Smaller Auckland businesses often publish the owner's mobile on their website or in their email signature.
Local events and industry associations
The Auckland Business Chamber is the city's main business body and runs regular events. NZTech brings together New Zealand's technology associations and runs events for the sector. Industry conferences and expos at the city's convention venues are where buyers from across the country gather.
Because the market is connected, a call that follows up a conversation at a chamber or industry event, with permission to use a name, converts far better than a cold one. Ask every positive contact who else you should speak to.
A two week Auckland calling sprint
Pick one area and one industry, such as distributors in East Tāmaki or professional services firms in the CBD. Build the list from New Zealand sources, confirm entities on the NZBN register, and verify mobiles and direct lines. Record the source and consent basis of every email address so your follow-up emails meet the UEMA.
Call 10am and 2pm Auckland time, Tuesday to Thursday, with at least four attempts per contact across the two weeks. Report Auckland separately from your Australian numbers. Compare the results with Nousu's Australian baseline of 14% connect and 1.3 meetings per 100 dials, and replace it with your own after four weeks.
Replace the {{placeholders}} with your own details before you call.
Opener: 'Hi {{first_name}}, it's {{your_name}} from {{company}}, calling from {{your_city}}. We work with a few Auckland {{industry}} businesses on {{problem}}. Have I caught you at a bad time?'
Ask: 'Would 20 minutes next {{weekday}} be worth it? I'll send the invite in Auckland time.'
Pricing: 'We quote in New Zealand dollars, so you will not need to convert anything.'

| Window | Auckland time | Your time in Sydney | Overlap with your own peaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning peak (22% connect in Nousu's Australian data) | 10am to 11am | 8am to 9am | None, so it will not compete with your local calls |
| Afternoon peak (19% connect in Nousu's Australian data) | 2pm to 3pm | 12pm to 1pm | None, so it will not compete with your local calls |
- Nousu's published windows come from Australian dials. Use them as a starting point for New Zealand and Singapore, then check your own connect rates by hour after four weeks.
- The helper does not check public holidays. Each market guide lists the holidays and slow weeks to plan around.
Common mistakes when calling Auckland
- Starting Auckland calls at 9am Sydney time, after Auckland's morning peak.
- Treating Auckland as all of New Zealand and ignoring Wellington and Christchurch buyers.
- Using Australian examples and Australian dollar pricing.
- Planning a campaign launch between Christmas and Waitangi Day.
- Sending follow-up emails without a UEMA compliant unsubscribe.
